For Immediate Release
October 26, 2009

CHICAGO – John Garrido took the next step in his campaign by filing his petitions for the Republican nomination for Cook County Board President. He issued the following statement:

I am amazed at the outpouring of support for my campaign. Republicans in Cook County are excited at the prospect of having an electable candidate on the ticket.

I have constantly affirmed my commitment to repealing the sales tax increase in Cook County, eliminating the unnecessary patronage jobs that Todd Stroger has used to reward his friends and family, reforming the county health care system, and expanding the Inspector General’s Office to target corrupt public servants in Cook County.

I am the only Republican candidate capable of actually winning against a Democrat in the general election. While Cook County would undoubtedly be better off with either one of us, my opponent’s prior election loss as a twelve year incumbent to a Democrat, in a predominantly Republican legislative district, shows that he is the wrong candidate to challenge the corrupt machine. I have a plan, an effective organization, and the ability to compete with the Democrats countywide.

I am the only candidate from either party who is not a career politician and not part of the Chicago Machine; it’s time for a fresh start for Cook County.

###

Now is your chance to make the contributions necessary to promote change in our county government. With your help we will give Cook County a fresh start and put the interests of the people first. Together we will lower taxes; we will put an end to fiscal irresponsibility and we will properly manage our government the way it should be managed; with common sense.

We need as many signatures as you can get to secure my place on the ballot. The time to get involved is now; you can make a difference. Download and print the petition directions and forms below to collect signatures from other registered voters.
